30.09.10 New Conference Venue for Kings Heath? An application has been submitted for the conversion of the Gala Bingo Hall on Kings Heath High Street into a conference venue with a 300-cover restaurant.

30.09.10 Handsworth Carjacker Jailed Indefinitely: A 20 year-old man from Zimbabwe has been jailed indefinitely at Birmingham Crown Court; he attempted to carjack a vehicle by brandishing an air pistol at the junction of Crocketts Road and Sandwell Road in Handsworth on the evening of Tuesday 1 June 2010. After the driver took evasive action, he threatened a second motorist whose car he stole.

30.09.10 Flats Replace Offices on Harborne High Street: Planning permission has been granted for the demolition of the Attwood House office block on Harborne High Street and the redevelopment of the site as a five-storey apartment block with 91 flats above a row of shops. A public car park with 44 spaces off Harborne High Street will become a private car park for the occupants of the new flats.

30.09.10 Trafalgar Road Flats Approved in Erdington: A corner house on Trafalgar Road in Erdington will be converted into flats despite objections from local residents who believe that the development will increase traffic congestion.

29.10.10 Wild Stag Closes Nechells Parkway: The A47 Nechells Parkway was closed for four hours today after a wild stag caused chaos on the dual carriageway. The antlered stag, which was grazing amidst trees on the central reservation, may have followed the Stechford Avoiding Line from the Cole Valley. It was tranquilised by a police marksmen and taken to Sutton Park.

29.09.10 Secure Zone for Tory Conference: The ICC and most of lower Broad Street will be a secure zone during the Conservative Party Conference which will be held there from Sunday 3rd to Wednesday 6th October. In particular the police will not allow the Right to Work March, organised by six trade unions, to pass through the area on Sunday 3 October.

28.09.10 Another Strip Club on Broad Street: The Cyclone Club on Broad Street is now licensed for pole and lap dancing until 6am every night of the week.

28.09.10 Alexander Stadium Refurbishment Approved: The £12.25 million refurbishment of Alexander Stadium has been approved by the City Cabinet. In addition to the new stand, which will increase spectator seating by 5,000 to 12,800, the stadium will be equipped with a new gym and office space. Work is scheduled to begin in October and finish in June 2011.

28.09.10 Rough Sleeping May Increase in Birmingham: Rough sleeping may significantly increase in Birmingham due to a reduction in funding for some emergency shelters. Funding for St Anne's in Digbeth, which provides 56 beds for the over 25's, has been cut whilst the Fireside Centre has closed its 27 bed hostel on Pershore Street. However, new funds have been provided for beds elsewhere, particularly at the Snow Hill Centre and the YMCA on Reservoir Road in Stockland Green.

27.09.10 UK Athletics Will Relocate to Perry Barr: UK Athletics will transfer its headquarters from Loughborough to the refurbished Alexander Stadium at Perry Barr.

27.09.10 Tyseley Arsonist Jailed: An 18-year-old arsonist, who torched an empty house on Reddings Lane in Tyseley on Wednesday 24/02/10, has been jailed for 2 years at Birmingham Crown Court.

27.09.10 Eid Mela At Cannon Hill Park: The 10th Birmingham Eid Mela was celebrated at Cannon Hill Park on Sunday 26 September. There were readings from the Quran, kabbadi and other sports, craft, food and market stalls, South Asian music and dance; the attendance was over 25,000.

26.09.10 Inmate Found Hanged at Winson Green: A 40 year-old man was found hanging in his cell at HMP Birmingham in Winson Green at around 2.30pm on Saturday 25 September. He was rushed to City Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

26.09.10 Road Racing Banned in Tyburn: Birmingham City Council have obtained a court injunction that effectively bans young motorists from congregating, racing each other and performing stunts in the vicinity of Fort Parkway in the Tyburn area of Erdington.

26.09.10 Snow Hill Towers Covered in Banners: Developers have obtained permission to cover the concrete cores of a 42 floor tower and a 23 floor tower at Three Snow Hill in the Business Quarter of central Birmingham with banners for up to three years. Once finished, the taller tower will be an apartment block and the shorter, a five star hotel; however, the project has been suspended due to financial problems and work may not resume before September 2013.

25.09.10 New Tesco Store for Hockley: A new Tesco Express store will open on Great Hampton Street in Hockley on Saturday 2nd October.

25.09.10 Perry Barr Student Halls Deferred: The construction of new student halls of residence in Perry Barr, on a site behind the Crown and Cushion pub at the junction of Birchfield Road and Wellington Road, has been deferred for three years.

25.09.10 Brum Retail Rents Highest Outside London: A retail report by Cushman and Wakefield entitled "Main Streets Across the World 2010" states that Birmingham High Street is the most expensive UK retail location outside London with an average annual rent of £275 per square feet.

24.09.10 Carluccio's Open Eatery in Brindleyplace: The Italian restaurant and delicatessen chain Carluccio's is opening an eatery at Brindleyplace.

24.09.10 Yo! Sushi Opens Restaurant on Waters Edge: The Japanese eatery Yo! Sushi, which already has a concession at Selfridges in the Bullring, will open a restaurant in Brindleyplace; the company, which is famous for its conveyor-belt sushi bars, has acquired two adjoining units on Waters Edge.

24.09.10 Car Hits Garden Wall in Quinton: A car crashed into a garden wall at the junction of Hagley Road West and Birch Lane in Quinton at roughly 1.30pm today; the driver, who is in her seventies, was taken to QE Hospital with back, neck and chest injuries.

23.09.10 Futsal to Build Football Arena in Newtown: The five-a-side leisure company Futsal has obtained planning permission to build an indoor football arena with 12 pitches on a former industrial site in Newtown. The project, which will create around 30 jobs, should be completed by mid-October. Four of the pitches will comply with FIFA tournament standards.

23.09.10 Man Jailed for Bite Attack on Meadway: A 32-year-old man has been jailed for 30 months at Birmingham Crown Court for biting off part of his ex-girlfriend's brother's ear during a street brawl on the Meadway in Kitts Green on 30 December 2009.

23.09.10 Blaze at Food Distribution Unit in Tyseley: Firefighters attended a blaze at a food distribution unit at Roshan Frozen Foods on Wharf Road in Tyseley which started at around 9am on Wednesday 22 September.

23.09.10 Cyclone Club Applies for Nude Entertainment License: The Cyclone Club on lower Broad Street has applied for a Nude Entertainment License that would permit table, pole and lap dancing until 6am.

23.09.10 B515 Suspected of Highgate Shooting: The 52-year-old father of a 20-year-old man who was shot on Gooch Street in Highgate on 19/05/10 has claimed that members of the B515 street gang were responsible.

22.09.10 Terminal Merger at Birmingham Airport: The two terminals at Birmingham Airport will be merged into one single facility in Spring 2011 as part of a £13 million redevelopment that will include new retail and restaurant units and a larger security area for passengers. The name will also be changed from Birmingham International Airport to Birmingham Airport.

22.09.10 Birmingham Shopkeeper Sold Toxic Cosmetics: A 33-year-old shopkeeper from Perry Barr has been jailed for 4 months for selling illegal cosmetics containing toxic levels of mercury and other chemicals between July and December 2009; the relevant products, which are generally used by Asian women, were sold from six shops in Birmingham including Beauty Queen Cosmetics and Soho Cosmetics on the Soho Road in Handsworth, Beauty Queen Hair and Cosmetics on the Dudley Road in Winson Green and Afro Hair and Beauty on the Coventry Road in Small Heath.

22.09.10 Silencer Seized in Small Heath: Police seized an object that appears to be a silencer for a firearm from a man whom they arrested in Small Heath following reports of disorder on Keats Avenue at around 10.30pm on Monday 20 September.

22.09.10 Warehouse Fire in Kitts Green: Fire crews attended a warehouse blaze at the Alcoa plant on Kitts Green Road at roughly 2:30 am on Tuesday 21 September. The fire was caused by an electrical fault in an overhead crane; one man was treated for smoke inhalation.

21.09.10 Gangsters Arsenal in Nechells Lockup: Police have discovered an arsenal of weapons during a raid on a lock-up in Nechells: the haul included two Baikal pistols, three revolvers, two semi-automatic handguns and a MAC 10 "spray and pray" machine pistol.

21.09.10 Conservation Trust Buys Coffin Works: The Newman Coffin Factory (1894) on Fleet Street in the Jewellery Quarter closed in 2000. There were plans to restore the grade-two-listed building as a museum dedicated to the undertaking trade, but regional development funding was withdrawn in 2009. The Birmingham Conservation Trust has now purchased the factory for £150,000 and hopes to obtain funding for interim restoration work; part of the building could be let as storage.

21.09.10 Crash on Pershore Road: A man was cut from a car that collided with a lorry on the Pershore Road in Edgbaston at around noon on Monday 20 September.

21.09.10 Man Battered on Kitts Green Road: A 46 year-old man was battered and left unconscious on Kitts Green Road after being asked for directions during the early hours of Sunday 22 August.

20.09.10 Attempted Robbery at Subway in Sheldon: A man demanded money from staff at the Subway sandwich store on the Coventry Road in Sheldon at roughly 9:30am on Wednesday 4 August. Upon being refused, he sprayed the till assistant with a burning substance before fleeing on a bicycle.

20.09.10 Jewellery Heist on Alum Rock Road: A car rammed the window of TI Jewellers on Alum Rock Road at roughly 3pm on Sunday 19 September. Two men then threw a smoke bomb into the store and helped themselves to jewellery by using hammers to smash display cases during the confusion; the thieves escaped in a waiting getaway car.

20.09.10 Gatecrasher Wins Best Bar None Award: The nightclub Gatecrasher on upper Broad Street in Five Ways has won the Birmingham Best Bar None Award 2010. The award, which is organised by Birmingham City Council, recognises competent bar management, particularly the discouragement of over-exuberant customers and the prevention of alcohol-fuelled crime.

19.09.10 Man Stabbed in Sparkbrook: A 48 year-old man was stabbed on Colville Walk off Stoney Lane in Sparkbrook at around 5.30pm on Friday 17 September.

19.09.10 Birmingham May Get Directly Elected Mayor: The Government is preparing a Localism Bill which will enable the 12 largest cities in England to elect Mayors subject to confirmatory referenda and scrutiny by elected councillors. The bill could become law in November 2011 and the first election for a Mayor of Birmingham could be held in May 2012.

18.09.10 New 6th Form Centres Planned for Newtown: Plans have been submitted for two new 6th form centres at Aston Manor College and Holte College in Newtown. Subject to the approval of the Council Cabinet, each centre will accommodate up to 100 sixth form students in existing buildings from September 2011.

18.09.10 Airport Runway Extension Modified: The planned extension to the runway at Birmingham Airport has been modified in order to reduce costs. The extension will now add 350 metres instead of 410 metres to the existing runway in order that the A45 Coventry Road, which stands in its way, might be diverted at less expense. The project will now cost £65 million instead of £120 million and the extended runway should be operational for long-haul flights by 2014.

17.09.10 Resident Complains About Digbeth Pub: A local resident has complained to the Environmental Health Department about noise at the Fountain Inn on Cheapside in Digbeth.  The complaint apparently relates to a live music event that finished at 12.30am. Similar complaints have resulted in Noise Abatement Orders being served on two other Digbeth pubs: the Spotted Dog on Warwick Street and the Rainbow on High Street Deritend.

17.09.10 Prince of Wales objects to Moseley Apartments: Regulars at the Prince of Wales on the Alcester Road in Moseley have objected to the renewal of planning permission for the construction of 50 new apartments next door to their pub. They argue that residents of newly-built flats often prevent established pubs from playing music because of noise problems that didn't previously exist.

17.09.10 Bumpy Landing at Birmingham Airport: A Monarch Airbus A321 carrying 196 passengers from Malaga to Birmingham apparently bounced around 20 feet on four occasions as it landed in cross winds at 1.35pm on Tuesday 14 September.

16.09.10 Six Year Old Dies in Northfield: The Birmingham Coroner has heard evidence that a six-year-old boy from Northfield died on 21st October 2009 because he aspirated his vomit due to a seizure caused by brain damage resulting from a shock that he suffered as one-year-old when he touched an electric fire.

16.09.10 Alum Rock Burglar Jailed: A 22-year-old drug addict who robbed a house in Alum Rock on Thursday 6th May 2010 has been jailed for 2.5 years at Birmingham Crown Court. The man was chased from the property and arrested by an off-duty policeman whom he attempted to carjack.

16.09.10 Solar Panels for Moseley Church: A planning inspector has authorised the installation of solar panels on the roof of St Mary's in Moseley. Subject to the approval of the diocese, the panels will cut heating bills and generate an annual income of up to £3,000. Their installation will be subsidised by a £30,000 grant from British Gas.

16.09.10 Highgate Sniper Targets More Victims: A sniper, who shot a 12-year-old boy with an air rifle from Wilmcote Tower on Upper Highgate Street on 30 August, is also thought to have shot a 20 year-old woman in the calf on the same day and may possibly have shot two other victims. The police have arrested a 26-year-old man who was subsequently released on bail.

15.09.10 Missing Boy Found Safe in Sparkhill: A 7 year-old boy went missing from Chandos Primary School on Vaughton Street in Highgate on Thursday 9 September. Police were alerted and eventually found the boy at a bus stop on the Stratford Road in Sparkhill.

15.09.10 Georgian Houses At Risk in Eastside: A private developer has submitted a planning application involving the demolition of a terrace of Georgian buildings on Bartholomew Row in Eastside. These buildings, which date from 1779, were originally houses but were later extended and transformed into workshops; they have been empty for over 10 years and may be beyond economical repair.

14.09.10 Terraced House Fire in Birches Green: Fire crews attended a blaze, possibly caused by a smouldering cigarette, at a terraced house on Round Road in Birches Green during the early hours of Monday 13 September.

14.09.10 Shots Fired Outside Chinatown Nightclub: Shots were fired on Wrottesley Street outside the Penthouse nightclub in the Chinatown area of Southside at roughly 3am on Saturday 11 September.

14.09.10 Man Stabbed and Shot in Ward End: A security guard was stabbed and shot by a gang of around 15 men at a funfair in Ward End Park at roughly 8pm on Sunday 12 September.

13.09.10 Artsfest Attended by 270,000: The Artsfest, including Kerrangfest and Classical Fantasia, was held in central Birmingham on the weekend of 10-12 September. 270,000 visitors attended around 600 performances held at 32 indoor and 5 outdoor venues.

13.09.10 Patients Complain About Aston Kidney Unit: Patients attending the Renal Unit at Aston Cross Business Village on Rocky Lane have signed a petition complaining that it lacks central heating, air conditioning and washing facilities and is plagued by flies. The unit is operated by Fesenius Medical Care as a satellite campus of QE Hospital in Edgbaston.

13.09.10 New Homes for Highcroft Village in Stockland Green: Planning permission has been obtained for 128 new homes at Highcroft Village in the Stockland Green area of Erdington. The village, which occupies the former site of Highcroft Hospital, has been criticised as a high density estate with too many flats. The new homes will be built on the last remaining open spaces and over 50 trees will be felled.

12.09.10 Elderly Man Falsely Imprisoned in Hall Green: A 62-year-old pensioner was locked in a flat on Cateswell Road in Hall Green for five days by a 24-year-old man. During this period, he was assaulted on numerous occasions and cash was withdrawn from his bank account. His captor has now been jailed for 4 years at Birmingham Crown Court for assault, theft and false imprisionment.

12.09.10 Traveller Encampment at Batchelors Farm Park: Irish travellers have established an illegal encampment on Batchelor Farm Park off Cotterills Lane in Bordesley Green. A caravan has since been stripped on the site and its metalwork removed.

11.09.10 Man Killled by Speeding Car in Small Heath: The Birmingham Assistant Deputy Coroner has heard evidence that a 48-year-old man died shortly after being hit by a speeding car on Old Know Road in Small Heath at roughly 2pm on Sunday 28 February.

11.09.10 Barking Dog Harassment in West Heath: A 50-year-old man from Nuthurst Road in West Heath has been sentenced to a 12 month community order for harassing his neighbour. The man was so irritated by his neighbour's dog that, amongst other things, he made a recording of it barking loudly which he played outside her house at 3am in the morning.

11.09.10 Dustcart Crash in Tyseley: A dustcart collided with three other vehicles, overturned and crashed into a wall on Amington Road in Tyseley at roughly 9:45am on Friday 10 September. Five binmen were subsequently treated for minor injuries at Heartlands Hospital in Bordelsey Green.

10.09.10 Newtown Housing Estate Will be Redeveloped: The planning committee has approved proposals to demolish the council estate off Alma Way in Newtown and replace it with 237 new homes, a youth centre and urban park. Privately-owned homes will be compulsorily purchased.

10.09.10 Missing Gold At Assay Office: Police suspect that gold valued at around £100,000 has been stolen from the Assay Office which authenticates and hallmarks jewellery on Newhall Street in the Jewellery Quarter; a 55-year-old female employee has been arrested.

10.09.10 Girl Hit by Bus in Hall Green: A ten-year-old girl was hit by a bus outside the College Arms on Stratford Road in Hall Green at around 4pm on Wednesday 8 September.

 09.09.10 Wild Deer Grazing at Custard Factory: A wild Muntjac deer has followed the course of the River Rea through a culvert to the Custard Factory in Digbeth where it has been grazing and sunning itself.

09.09.10 Swan Centre Redevelopment Delayed: The redevelopment of the Swan Shopping Centre as a Tesco superstore does not appear to have progressed since May 2010 when a compulsory purchase order that prevented the landowner from blocking the scheme was upheld. The site has planning permission for an 80,000 square foot superstore and 70,000 square feet of other retail space. John Hemming, the Liberal MP for Yardley, has queried why work has not yet commenced; it appears that Tesco are still negotiating terms with the main building contractor.

09.09.10 Suspected Hit And Run in Erdington: A man in his thirties was hit by a car at the corner of Summer Road and Machin Road in Erdington at around 11pm on Tuesday 7 September; a 21-year-old female motorist was later arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

08.09.10 Alum Rock Jeweller Sold Unhallmarked Gold: The 28-year-old owner of the Gold Centre on Alum Rock Road has pleaded guilty at Birmingham Magistrates Court to selling unhallmarked jewellery described as gold; the description was apparently accurate and fraud was not alleged.

08.09.10 West Heath Man Charged with Baby Murder: A 24-year-old man from West Heath has been charged with the murder of a baby aged four months who died in Birmingham Children's Hospital on 31/12/08. The baby's father and mother, who are aged 21 and 20 respectively, and who are also from West Heath, have been charged with neglect and ill treatment.

08.09.10 Plans for New Public Space at Bullring: Plans have been unveiled for the proposed redevelopment of the terrace that links Saint Martins Square to the upper levels of the Bullring retail malls; this area, currently occupied by the Spiral Cafe, would be transformed into a new public space known as Spiceal Street that would contain three restaurant units and a fountain.

08.09.10 Private Investor Buys Former Typhoo Works: A private investor has purchased the former Typhoo Works off Bordesley Street in the Eastside area of central Birmingham. The site currently has planning consent for 353 apartments, 485 square metres of office space, and 188 parking spaces.

08.09.10 Digbeth Institute Will Probably Reopen on 18 Sept: The Digbeth Institute is nearing the completion of a £4 million refurbishment and should reopen as the HMV Institute on Saturday 18th September. The revamped building will contain a main auditorium with a capacity of 1500, a second venue, the library, with a capacity of 600, a VIP area, and two clubrooms.

08.09.10 Controversy over New Entrance to Snow Hill: Contractors are currently finishing the new entrance to Snow Hill Railway Station which is located on Livery Street and which allows passengers to enter the station from the Jewellery Quarter without crossing Great Charles Street Queensway. However, the project has been mired in controversy, not least because it exceeded the original budget of £10 million by 70% and took 5 years instead of 3 years to complete. Furthermore, it now transpires that the completed entrance can not be used until conditions for its use are agreed with rail operators.

07.09.10 Sikh Free Schools Planned for Birmingham: The Guru Nanak Nishkam Educational Trust, which has been formed by the Sikh community in Birmingham, plans to open two free schools in the city: the Nishkam Secondary School at the former site of the Lucas Factory on Great King Street in Hockley and a primary school on the Soho Road in Handsworth.

07.09.10 Nechells Baths Celebrate Centenary: The grade-two-listed, red-brick-and-terracotta bathhouse on Nechells Park Road celebrated its centenary on Saturday 4th September 2010. The Edwardian building, which was refurbished in 1995, is now a community centre with an internet cafe, offices, nursery, crèche, youth club, bingo and dance groups.

07.09.10 Sparkbrook Knife Murderer Jailed: A 35-year-old man has been jailed for life at Birmingham Crown Court for the murder of a 24-year-old man whom he stabbed at his flat on Auckland Road in Sparkbrook after the pair had quarrelled on the night of Friday 19th March 2010. The murderer, who must serve a minimum of 14 years, had previously been drinking at the Shakespeare on the Stratford Road.

07.09.10 Car Torched in Erdington: A stolen Renault Megane was torched in the car park of the Holly Lane Sports and Social Club in Erdington at around 2am on Monday 6th September.

07.09.10 Bin Fire in Erdington High Street: Fire crews extinguished a bin fire outside the Co-op on Erdington High Street at around 3am on Monday 6th September.

07.09.10 Three Car Crash in Yardley: Three cars collided on the A45 Coventry Road in Yardley at around 8am on Monday 6 September; nobody was seriously injured.

06.09.10 Lander Wins Dun & Bradstreet Rating 1: The automotive components manufacturer Lander, which is based at the Woodgate Business Park, recruited an additional 27 staff and increased annual turnover by 22% to £28 million in 2010. The company has been awarded a Dun & Bradstreet Rating 1 which is achieved by only 15% of all UK firms and indicates a minimum risk of failure.

06.09.10 Homelessness Crisis in Birmingham: High unemployment and a fragile economy have been blamed for a 140% increase in homelessness in Birmingham in 2010. 4,415 families declared themselves homeless in the first 6 months of the year and the city council estimates that additional housing will cost £3 million this year. The council will deal with the crisis by renting 630 approved properties from private landlords but will avoid the use of bed and breakfast accommodation except in emergencies.

05.09.10 Waterworks Estate is Now Virtually Crime Free: The Waterworks Estate in Ladywood is now virtually crime-free thanks to improved street lighting, CCTV, neighbourhood policing and the involvement of the local community in law & order issues. In particular, street prostitution, which was once rife in the area, has almost been eliminated and 40 crack houses have been closed.

05.09.10 Thousands Attend Moseley Folk Festival: Two thousand music fans attended the first night of the 5th Moseley Folk Festival at Moseley Hall Park on Friday 3 September. The three day festival is expected to draw total crowds of 6,000. It will conclude this evening with a performance by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.

04.09.10 Litigation Continues Over Travellers Encampment: Birmingham City Council are still attempting to evict the Doherty family from an official traveller site on Tameside Drive in Castle Vale. According to the council, the site is only intended for the temporary use of travellers who are passing through Birmingham and so they can evict the Doherty's who have virtually monopolised the site since 1991. However, the Doherty's claim that the site is a permanent encampment and that they have acquired tenants rights/human rights to live there. The City Council obtained an eviction order at the High Court in 2004 but the Doherty's appealed and in December 2008 the House of Lords ruled that the High Court had wrongly applied the law and must reconsider the case. In the meantime, the Doherty's solicitors are claiming £200,000 legal costs from the council.

04.09.10 Travellers Camp at Stechford Hall Park: A convoy of travellers, which has established an unlawful encampment at Stecford Hall Park, were served with a seven day eviction notice on Tuesday 31st August 2010.

03.09.10 Airport Flasher Spared Prison: A 42-year-old man was ordered to perform 120 hours community service after a jury at Warwick Crown Court found him guilty of exposing himself to two 17-year-old girls who were waiting for an early morning flight at Birmingham Airport in August 2009.

03.09.10 Man Battered Outside Erdington Pub: Police are still searching for a gang who severely  battered a 35 year-old man outside the Yenton pub on Sutton Road in Erdington at around midnight on Thursday 24th June 2010. The victim sustained a broken jaw and fractured eye socket.

02.09.10 Aquatics Centre Budget Cut: The £58 million budget for the Aquatics Centre, which should be built on King Edwards Road in Westside by 2014, will be slashed by cancelling the diving pool and fun pool whilst retaining the planned 50-metre Olympic pool, sports hall and outdoor pitches.

02.09.10 Shoes Thrown at Pakistan President at ICC: A 57 year-old Pakistani man threw his shoes at the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, as he addressed a meeting at the ICC in the Westside area of central Birmingham on 7th August 2010.

02.09.10 Victorian Houses to be Bulldozed on Hagley Road: A row of Victorian Houses on the Hagley Road, which form part of the Barnsley Road Conservation Area, will be demolished to make room for a retirement village financed by the Extra Care Charitable Trust.

02.09.10 House of Ill Repute in Small Heath: Birmingham Magistrates have issued a three-month Closure Order for a house on the Coventry Road in Small Heath that may have been a drugs den and brothel. Anybody living at the address may be arrested if they attempt to return.

01.09.10 Northfield Pub Will Be Demolished: The Old Mill Pub on West Heath Road in Northfield will be demolished and replaced by a Co-op supermarket that should provide 20 full-time and 30 part-time jobs.

01.09.10 Three Car Collision in Perry Barr: Three cars collided on the A34 Walsall Road outside the One Stop Shopping Centre in Perry Barr at around 12.25pm on Tuesday 31st August.

01.09.10 Inmate Dies in Winson Green Prison: A 52-year-old man from Leek in Staffordshire, who was on remand pending trial for the murder of a 49-year-old woman, was discovered in his cell with his throat cut at Winson Green Prison at around 7am on Sunday 29 August.

01.09.10 Highgate Sniper Shoots Boy: An air rifle sniper shot a 12-year-old boy in the arm on Upper Highgate Street at around 7pm on Monday 23rd August. It appears that the sniper targeted the boy from the 20-storey Wilmcote Tower. The boy was treated for bruising at City Hospital.
