Overview Wyrley Birch

Wyrley Birch is in the Kingstanding ward in north Birmingham, four miles from the city centre. The surrounding areas are Witton, Kingstanding, New Oscott, Short Heath and Stockland Green.

The area is named after the Wyrley-Birch family who were the lords of the manor from the Middle Ages until the mid-19th century.

Wyrley Birch was rural until the 1960's when the council developed it for housing, leaving parts of Perry Common as a public open space.

The estate mostly contains short terraces, semi-detached pairs and detached bungalows. There are also blocks of low-rise and high-rise flats. Some areas are badly decayed and in the process of being rebuilt.
