The Weoley council ward is in south-west Birmingham, roughly
four miles from the city centre. It is flanked by the
Bournville ward, the
Harborne ward, the
Longbridge ward, the
Bartley Green ward
and the Selly Oak ward.
The Weoley ward contains the areas of
Weoley,
Allens Cross and
parts of Shenley,
Northfield and
Selly Oak. |

There are approximately 25,000 people resident in the Weoley
ward.
The population density is roughly 47 persons per hectare
compared to an average of 36.5 for Birmingham as a whole. The
average age is 32 compared to 36 for the city as a whole.
The white British population accounts for around 83% of residents.
Approximately 2.5% of the population is of Asian origin with
roughly 1.5% from India and 0.5% from Pakistan.
Around 3% of the population is black, including 2% of
Afro-Caribbean descent.
7% of residents are white non-British (including Irish), 3%
are of mixed background, and 1.5% are of Chinese origin or
belong to some other ethnic group.

now several years out of date and which was collated in respect
of different ward boundaries.

Most of the housing stock was built between the wars by
Birmingham City Council and Bournville Village Trust; it
mainly consists of short terraces and medium-sized semi-detached pairs arranged
in closes, avenues, circles and crescents. The density is
generally low; many houses have comparatively large front and
rear gardens; however, there are some high-density flats and
maisonettes, including four tower blocks at Shenley Fields.
The rate of owner occupation is around 54%. Roughly 5% of
homes are rented from private landlords and 37% from the local
authority or housing associations. |
