Housing: Tyburn Ward

Residential areas include Castle Vale, Birches Green and Pype Hayes.

Pype Hayes and Birches Green contain a large number of semi-detached houses and short terraces built in geometric patterns between 1930 and 1960. There are also some pre-1919 terraces on the Kingsbury Road.

Castle Vale was developed as a council estate of flats, bungalows, maisonettes and tower blocks in the 1960's. Towers, bungalows and flats were also built at Pype Hayes.

Most of these post-war homes have now been replaced by lower-density housing and only four tower blocks still stand: one at Birches Green, one at Pype Hayes and two at Castle Vale.
