The Three Estates are in the Kings Norton ward in south-west Birmingham, five miles from the city centre. The area is named after three housing estates: Hawkesley, Primrose and Pool Farm. The surrounding areas are Lifford, Wychall, Druids Heath, West Heath, Kings Norton Village and the Bromsgrove District of Worcestershire. The Three Estates were built as post-war council estates in open countryside to the south-east of Kings Norton. Pool Farm and Primrose were completed in the 1960's and Hawkesley in the 1970's. The housing stock mainly consists of short terraces and semi-detached pairs, many with front and rear gardens. The area also includes low-rise flats and ten high-rise residential towers. 43 new semi-detached council houses were built on Primrose Hill in summer 2010 (News Archive 16/07/10).
