The Sutton Vesey council ward is in north Birmingham, roughly
five miles from the city centre. It is flanked by the
Erdington ward, the
Oscott ward, the
Kingstanding ward,
the Sutton Trinity
ward, the
Sutton Four Oaks ward,
the Sutton New Hall
ward and the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell. The Sutton
Vesey ward contains the areas of Banners Gate,
Boldmere,
New Oscott and part
of Wylde Green. |

There are approximately 24,000 people resident in the Sutton
Vesey Ward.
The population density is 33 persons per hectare compared to
an average of 36.5 for Birmingham as a whole. The average
age is 42 compared to 36 for the city as a whole.
The white British population accounts for around 86%
of residents.
Approximately 3.5% of the population is of Asian origin with
roughly 2.5% from India and 0.5% from Pakistan.
Around 1.5% of the population is black, including 1% of
Afro-Caribbean descent.
7% of residents are white non-British (including Irish), 1.5% are
of mixed background, and 0.5% are of Chinese origin or belong to
some other ethnic group.

now several years out of date and which was collated in respect
of different ward boundaries.

The ward was first developed in the late 19th century when rows
of detached villas were built alongside the main thoroughfares.
Smaller detached houses and semi-detached pairs were
constructed between the wars and several estates of high-density
detached homes, including some bungalows, were added after 1945.
The ward also includes high-density terraces, low-rise flats
and two residential towers at Boldmere and Wylde Green.
The rate of owner occupation is 86%. Roughly 5% of homes are
rented from private landlords and around 8% from the local
authority or housing associations. |
