The Stockland Green ward is in north-east Birmingham, roughly four miles from the city centre. It is flanked by the Erdington ward, the Kingstanding ward, the Nechells ward, the Tyburn ward and the Perry Barr ward.

The Stockland Green ward contains the areas of Stockland Green, Gravelly Hill and parts of Short Heath, Witton and Kingstanding.

There are approximately 24,000 people resident in the Stockland Green Ward.

The population density is 45 persons per hectare compared to an average of 36.5 for Birmingham as a whole. The average age is 40 compared to 36 for the city as a whole.

The white British population accounts for around 67% of residents.

Approximately 10.5% of the population is of Asian origin with roughly 5.5% from Pakistan, 3.5% from India and 0.5% from Bangladesh.

Around 10% of the population is black, including 8.5% of Afro-Caribbean descent.

8% of the population is white non-British (including Irish), 3.5% are of mixed background, and 1% are of Chinese origin or belong to some other ethnic group.

These estimates may differ from official census data which is now several years out of date and which was collated in respect of different ward boundaries.

The Stockland Green ward was developed as a suburb of Erdington.

It contains a large number of medium-sized interwar homes with comparatively spacious front and rear gardens arranged in short terraces or semi-detached pairs.

There are longer terraces of smaller pre-1919 houses in the area around Slade Road and post-1950 municipal housing, particularly on the east side of Witton Lakes.

More recent developments include a high-density private estate in the former grounds of Highcroft Hospital.

The rate of owner occupation is around 66%. Roughly 12% of homes are rented from private landlords and 20% from the local authority or housing associations.

The workless rate (economically inactive of working age) in the Stockland Green ward is roughly 22% compared to an average of 20.2% for Birmingham as a whole.

9% of the ward is amongst the 5% most deprived areas in England; 33% is amongst the 10% most deprived areas in England; and 86% is amongst the 20% most deprived areas in England (how is deprivation measured?). 

The major employers are Interserve Projects (building services = around 1000 jobs), Josiah Mason College (500), Crown House (building services = 200), Little Ripley Day Nursery (90), Kingsbury School (90) and Queensbury School (90).

Erdington Reservoir, Slade Road Cricket Ground, Bleak Hill Allotments, Chudleigh Road Allotments, Hunton Hill Allotments, Marsh Hill Allotments and the Witton Lakes.
