The housing stock mainly consists of small pre-1919 terraced
houses. There are also patches of high density flats and
maisonettes, particularly in Hockley where there are high-rise
tower blocks.
Winson Green is characterised by short Victorian terraces
with cramped rear yards and no front gardens. In Soho, the
terraces are arranged in long unbroken chains with narrow
backyards and small front gardens.
The ward also contains Edwardian semi-detached pairs,
detached villas and modern terraces set in short closes.
The rate of owner occupation is around 49%. Roughly 14% of
homes are rented from private landlords and 35% from the local
authority or housing associations. |
