Short Heath is in the Erdington ward in north-east Birmingham, five miles from the city centre. The surrounding areas are Boldmere, Erdington Town, New Oscott, Stockland Green and Wyrley Birch.

Short Heath is named after heathland on the west side of Erdington Town which was developed for housing, mainly between 1880 and 1930. The area is characterised by older terraces and semi-detached pairs.

Erdington Court Bowls Club is located on Bowling Green Close off Goosemoor Lane. The club, which was established in 1925, is equipped with artificial indoor and outdoor greens. It fields teams in men's and ladies' league & cup competitions. Social matches are played.

There is a row of five residential tower blocks on Jarvis Road in Short Heath.
