Housing: Sheldon Ward |

|
|
Ribbon development started in earnest along the Coventry Road in
the 1930's when private housing estates, mainly semi-detached pairs with comparatively large gardens, were laid
out in the Lyndon Green area of Sheldon. After the Second
World War, the council built the Kents Moat Estate of
semi-detached pairs in geometric patterns which effectively
merged Lyndon Green and Yardley.
The north side of the ward, including Garretts Green, was
developed between 1960 and 1975; it contains higher density
housing with smaller gardens, a greater proportion of terraces
and some low-rise flats.
The rate of owner occupation is 73%. Roughly 4% of homes are
rented from private landlords and 21% from the local authority
or housing associations. |
