Queslett is in the Oscott ward in north Birmingham, five miles from the city centre. The name is derived from the old English quieslade which means a valley populated by pigeons. The surrounding areas are Great Barr, Perry Barr, Old Oscott and Kingstanding. Queslett is generally regarded as part of Great Barr and only partially lies within Birmingham. The Birmingham part of Queslett was developed as municipal semi-detached housing between 1930 and 1960. Low-rise flats were added in the 1960's. Most of these homes are now privately owned. Several green spaces have been preserved, including the Queslett Nature Reserve. Others were developed as a trading estate that contains an Asda superstore.
