The Oscott ward is in north-west Birmingham, roughly four miles
from the city centre. It is flanked by the
Kingstanding ward,
the Perry Barr ward,
the Stockland Green
ward and the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell.
The Oscott ward contains the areas of
Old Oscott,
Perry Beeches,
Queslett and parts of
Witton and
Kingstanding. |

There are approximately 26,000 people resident in the Oscott
ward.
The population density is 37 persons per hectare compared
with an average of 36.5 for Birmingham as a whole. The
average age is 40 compared to 36 for the city as a whole.
The white British population accounts for around 83.5% of all
residents.
Approximately 3.5% of the population are of Asian origin with
roughly 3% from India and 0.5% from Pakistan.
Around 4% of the population is black, including 3.5% of
Afro-Caribbean descent.
7% of residents are white non-British (including Irish), 1.5%
are of mixed background, and 0.5% are of Chinese origin or
belong to some other ethnic group.

now several years out of date and which was collated in respect
of different ward boundaries.

The ward contains a high proportion of three-bedroom
semi-detached houses built by the council between 1930 and 1960.
They tend to be arranged in closes, crescents and avenues, some
of which are tree-lined with broad verges. There are also
higher density terraces and low-rise flats.
The rate of owner occupation is around 80%. Roughly 5% of
homes are rented from private landlords and 14% from the local
authority or housing associations. |
