Overview Old Oscott

Old Oscott is in the Oscott council ward in north Birmingham, five miles from the city centre. The surrounding areas are Kingstanding, Queslett, Perry Beeches and Perry Barr.

Oscott is a corruption of Osca's Cott which means the farmstead owned by Osca. The area is identified with the Catholic Church and became known as Old Oscott after a seminary that formed part of the Catholic estate at Maryvale relocated to New Oscott in 1837.

The rest of Old Oscott was developed as private and municipal housing between 1920 and 1960. The stock mainly consists of semi-detached homes with narrow rear gardens arranged on long suburban avenues.
