Housing: Moseley and Kings Heath Ward

Moseley and Kings Heath were developed as gentrified suburbs in the late 19th century; consequently, there are a large number of Edwardian villas and terraced townhouses, many of which have been divided into flats and bedsits.

Large areas were set aside as country estates for prosperous industrialists such as the  Chamberlain and Cadbury families; the grounds of their respective mansions have been preserved as Highbury Park.

Creeping urbanisation brought rows of small terraced houses, particularly in the Kings Heath area, but most interwar development consisted of large semi-detached homes set in spacious gardens.

Post-war council estates with a high proportion of terraces were built on the fringes of Kings Heath in the fifties and sixties but the ward also contains many modern detached homes.
