Housing: Longbridge Ward |

Longbridge was first developed in the early 1900's when Herbert
Austin based his car factory there.
Most of the housing is ex-council build dating from 1950-80;
it is characterised by short terraces and semi-detached pairs.
Some of the older stock is in urgent need of refurbishment;
however, the closure of the car factory has been accompanied by
a spate of regeneration projects that will improve the area;
these include, for example, a privately-built landscaped village
at Rubery Great Park.
The rate of owner occupation in Longbridge is around 59%.
Roughly 4% of homes are rented from private landlords and around
35% from the local authority or housing associations. |
