Overview Kitts Green

Kitts Green is in the Shard End ward in east Birmingham, five miles from the city centre. The surrounding areas are Chelmsley Wood, Hodge Hill, Shard End, Stechford, Sheldon, and Yardley.

Kitts Green is named after a pasture owned by the Kitt family whose farm was developed as a municipal housing estate in the 1930's. At around the same time, Lea Hall was also demolished and its manorial farmland similarly developed.

Apart from six Y-shaped towers off Shirestone Road, these estates mainly consist of terraced houses and semi-detached pairs. They are linked by Kitts Green Road and flanked by a belt of industrial estates that straddle the Birmingham Loop of the West Coast Mainline. There is a commercial centre at Lea Village.
