The Hodge Hill council ward is in east Birmingham, roughly four
miles from the city centre. It is flanked by the
Nechells ward, the
Tyburn ward, the
Shard End ward, the
Stechford and Yardley North ward, the
Washwood Heath
ward and the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull. The Hodge
Hill ward includes the area of
Hodge Hill and
parts of Bromford,
Stechford,
Ward End and
Washwood Heath. |

There are approximately 26,000 people resident in the Hodge
Hill ward.
The population density is roughly 42 persons per hectare
compared to an average of 36.5 for Birmingham as a whole. The
average age is 40 compared to 36 for the city as a whole.
The white British population accounts for around 73% of all
residents.
Approximately 14% of the population are of Asian origin with
roughly 11% from Pakistan, 1.5% from India and 0.5% from
Bangladesh.
Around 4% of the population is black, including 3.5% of
Afro-Caribbean descent.
5.5% of residents are white European (including Irish), 3%
are of mixed race, and 0.5% are of Chinese origin or belong to
some other ethnic group.

now several years out of date and which was collated in respect
of different ward boundaries.

The ward contains a large proportion of private inter-war build
characterised by long terraced streets but there are also neat
avenues of detached and semi-detached houses, many with
comparatively large front and rear gardens. The ward also
contains several post-war social housing estates, including the
high-density Firs and Overpool estates in Ward End and the
Bromford Bridge Estate in Bromford.
There are five residential towers at Overpool and nine at
Bromford Bridge.
The rate of owner occupation in Hodge Hill is roughly 66%.
Around 4% of homes are rented from private landlords and 28%
from the local authority or housing associations. |
