Housing: Harborne Ward |
|
|
|
Harborne remained largely undeveloped until the mid-19th century
when improved transport links created a thriving High Street.
The old village, centred on Saint Peters Church, is now a
conservation area that contains several Victorian mansions
including the official residence of the Bishop of Birmingham.
The Harborne Tenants, a mutual friendly society, built a
54-acre low-density village at Moor Pool in 1907-1912.
Harborne also contains several interwar council estates with
comparatively spacious detached and semi-detached housing.
There are, however, some high-density post-war estates
including several blocks of low-rise maisonettes and a 16-storey
residential tower on Malins Road.
The rate of owner occupation in Harborne is around 62%.
Roughly 18% of homes are rented from private landlords and
around 17% from the local authority or housing associations. |
