The Hall Green council ward is in south-east Birmingham, roughly
five miles from the city centre. It is flanked by the
Acocks Green ward,
the Billesley ward,
the Springfield ward
and the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull. The Hall Green
council ward contains the areas of
Hall Green and
parts of Fox Hollies
and Yardley Wood. |

There are approximately 23,000 people resident in the Hall
Green ward.
The population density is roughly 47 persons per hectare
compared to an average of around 36.5 for Birmingham as a whole.
The average age is 40 compared to 36 for the city as a whole.
The white British population accounts for around 70% of all
residents.
Approximately 18% of the population is of Asian origin with
roughly 11% from India, 6.5% from Pakistan and 0.5% from
Bangladesh.
Around 1.5% of the population is black, including 1.2% of
Afro-Caribbean descent.
8.5% of residents are white non-British (including Irish),
1.5% are of mixed race, and 0.5% are of Chinese origin or belong
to some other ethnic group.

now several years out of date and which was collated in respect
of different ward boundaries.

Hall Green was extensively developed after the First World War.
A large proportion of the housing stock consists of
privately-built inter-war semi-detached pairs arranged on
tree-lined avenues with broad pavements/grass verges.
The area around Pitmaston Road was developed as a
higher-density council estate after the Second World War. It
mostly contains terraced housing arranged in geometric patterns.
There are also some older Victorian properties, originally
built as country houses, although most have now been demolished
and replaced by modern flats and houses.
The rate of owner occupation in the Hall Green ward is around
83%. Roughly 6% of homes are rented from private landlords and
around 9% from the local authority or housing associations. |

Most of the open space in the Hall Green ward is in the Cole
Valley on the western boundary.
This area includes the Cole Bank Playing Fields, the Dingles,
Greet Mill Meadow, the John Morris Jones Walkway, the Sarehole
Mill Recreation Ground, the Scribers Lane Recreation Ground, and
Trittiford Mill Park.
Other green spaces include the Newey Goodman Public Open Space,
the Whisley Brook Lane Playing Area. the Marion Way Public Open
Space, Moorlands, Beeches Recreation Ground and Beechcroft
Tennis Courts. |
