Gravelly Hill is an area of north-east Birmingham in the Tyburn ward and the Stockland Green ward, roughly three miles from the city centre. It is named after the gravel pits on the north side of Spaghetti Junction. The surrounding areas are Nechells, Salford, Stockland Green, Tyburn and Erdington Town. Gravelly Hill was first developed in the 1860's after Gravelly Hill Railway Station opened on the Sutton Coldfield line. Several Victorian houses have survived in the area around the station but most of Gravelly Hill consists of suburban interwar terraces and semi-detached pairs. Junction 6 of the M6, also known as Spaghetti Junction, was constructed on the south side of Gravelly Hill in the 1960's. The area sandwiched between the M6 and the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal was developed as Gravelly Business Park.
