Overview Cotteridge

Cotteridge is an area of south-west Birmingham in the Bournville ward, roughly four miles from the city centre. It is named after Cotta's Ridge which is the high ground followed by Middleton Hall Road. The surrounding areas are Bournville, Stirchley, Wychall, Northfield Town and Kings Norton Village.

Cotteridge was farmland until Kings Norton Station opened on the Birmingham and Gloucester Line in 1849 and the Cadbury factory arrived in nearby Bournville in 1879.

Several terraces with long narrow gardens and some larger semi-detached homes were then built and a shopping centre gradually evolved at the junction of Middleton Hall Road, Watford Road and Pershore Road. The area was completely urban by 1914.
