The Brandwood council ward is in south Birmingham, roughly
five miles from the city centre. It is flanked by the
Billesley ward, the
Bournville ward, the
Kings Norton ward,
the Moseley
& Kings Heath ward and the Bromsgrove district of
Worcestershire. The Brandwood council ward contains the areas
of Brandwood,
Druids Heath and part of
Kings Heath. |

There are approximately 25,000 people resident in the
Brandwood ward.
Population density is roughly 42 persons per hectare
compared with an average of 36.5 for Birmingham as a whole. The
average age is 39 compared to 36 for the city as a whole.
The white British population accounts for around 80% of all
residents.
Approximately 6% of the population is of Asian origin with
roughly 2.5% from Pakistan and 2.9% from India.
Around 3.5% of the population is black, including 3% of
Afro-Caribbean descent.
7% are white non-British (including Irish), 2.5% are of mixed
race, and 1% are of Chinese origin or belong to some other
ethnic group.
These estimates may differ from official census data which is
now several years out of date and which was collated in respect
of different ward boundaries.

Most of the housing stock in Brandwood is of post-war build.
The ward contains Druids Heath: a high-density ex-council
estate managed by a tenants co-operative. There are fifteen
high-rise tower blocks at Druids Heath, eight of which form part
of the Baverstock Cluster.
The ward also includes the Allenscroft estate which was built
by the council after the First World War to provide "homes fit
for heroes". Now owned by a housing association, it has been
regenerated in partnership with private house builders.
The rate of owner occupation in Brandwood is around 64%.
Roughly 3% of homes are rented from private landlords and 32%
from the local authority or housing associations. |

The workless rate (economically inactive of working age) in the
Brandwood ward is roughly 21% compared to an average of around
20.2% for Birmingham as a whole.

The major employers are Cleaning Contractor Services (roughly
300 jobs), Birmingham City Council (250), Care UK (210), Moss
Construction (190), St Judes RC Primary School (180), Cocks
Moors Woods Leisure Centre (160); and
Lindsworth Special School (150), Baverstock School (130),
Sainsbury (120), Speciality Minerals (Calcium carbonate
production = 70).
