The Billesley council ward is in south-east Birmingham, roughly five miles from the city centre. It is flanked by the Brandwood ward, the Hall Green ward, the Springfield ward, the Moseley and Kings Heath ward and the Bromsgrove district of Worcestershire.

The Billesley ward contains the areas of Billesley, Warstock, Yardley Wood, and part of Kings Heath.

There are approximately 27,000 people resident in the Billesley ward.

The population density is roughly 46 persons per hectare compared to an average of 36.5 for Birmingham as a whole. The average age is 39 compared to 36 for the city as a whole.

Around 81.5% of the population is white British.

Approximately 6% of the population is of Asian origin with roughly 2.5% from Pakistan and 3.5% from India.

3% of residents are black, including 2.5% of Afro-Caribbean descent.

6.5% are white non-British (including Irish), 2.5% are of mixed race, and 0.5% are of Chinese origin or belong to some other ethnic group.

These estimates may differ from official census data which is now several years out of date and which was collated in respect of different ward boundaries.

Housing: Billesley Ward
 
The ward was first developed in the 1920's when the council began to construct the Billesley Estates, some of the first council homes in Birmingham.

The housing stock is almost entirely of inter-war or postwar build. Around 42% of all houses are semi-detached whilst roughly 32% are terraced.

The rate of owner occupation is 65%. Around 4% of homes are rented from private landlords and 28% from the local authority or housing associations.

The workless rate (economically inactive of working age) in the Billesley ward is 19.5% compared with an average of 20.2% for Birmingham as a whole.

6% of the ward is amongst the 5% most deprived areas in England; 38% of the ward is amongst the 10% most deprived areas in England; and 68% is amongst the 20% most deprived areas in England (how is deprivation measured?).

The major employers are Travel West Midlands (around 450 jobs), Swanshurst School (150), Inter City Watch Company (importers/distributors = 90), Royal Mail (90), Dame Ellen Pinsent School (75), Kings Heath School (70).

He was Lord Mayor of Birmingham in 2010-11.
