The Bartley Green ward remained a rural backwater until the Bangham Pit and
Athol Farm council estates were built there after the Second World
War.
The Kitwell council estate followed in the 1970's, mostly as
council homes for rent.
Attempts have been made to improve these estates and enhance
their surroundings. Five 1960's tower blocks on Athol Farm have
either been demolished or are in the process of being
demolished.
Bangham Pit, which contains 364 houses and 80 low-rise flats,
is being regenerated.
The rate of owner occupation in the Bartley Green ward is
around 50%. Roughly 3% of homes are rented from private
