Information Allens Cross

 Allens Cross is an area in the Longbridge and Weoley council wards in south-west Birmingham, roughly five miles from the city centre. The surrounding areas are Longbridge, Northfield, Shenley, Bartley Green and New Frankley.

Allens Cross is named after the Allen family who farmed the area in the Middle Ages. The cross refers to an ancient crossroads on or near their estate, the exact location of which is unknown.

Allens Cross remained farmland until it was developed for municipal housing and became a suburb of Northfield in the 1930's. The area is characterised by short terraces and semi-detached pairs strung out on long, often crescent-shaped, avenues.

Boy Bitten by Rottweiler on Merritts Brook Lane

 A 13-year-old boy was bitten by a stray rottweiler on Merritts Brook Lane on Thursday 24th March 2011. The dog's owner was ordered to pay £74 compensation at Birmingham Magistrates Court in July 2011 (News Headlines 02/08/11).
