The Bordesley Green council ward is in east Birmingham, roughly
two miles from the city centre. It is flanked by the
Nechells ward, the
Stechford and Yardley North ward, the
Washwood Heath
ward and the South
Yardley ward. The Bordesley Green ward contains the area
of Bordesley Green
and parts of Small
Heath, Yardley and
Alum Rock. |

There are approximately 33,000 people resident in the
Bordesley Green ward.
The population density is the highest in Birmingham at
roughly 75 persons per hectare compared to an average of around
36.5 for Birmingham as a whole. The average age is 33 compared
to 36 for the city as a whole.
Around 62.5% of the population is of Asian origin with
roughly 51% from Pakistan, 7% from Bangladesh and 3.5% from
India.
Roughly 5% of the population is black, including 3.5% of Afro-Caribbean
descent.
The white British population accounts for 23% of residents.
5% are white non-British (including Irish), 3% are mixed race, and 1.5%
are of Chinese origin or belong to some
other ethnic group.

now several years out of date and which was collated in respect
of different ward boundaries.

The housing stock in the Bordesley Green ward mainly consists of
high-density pre-1919 terraces, some of which are in poor
condition.
The council demolished several Victorian terraces in the
1990's, replacing them with modern homes in an "old for new"
initiative. The ward also contains an Edwardian model village
built by the Ideal Benefit Society.
The proportion of publicly rented housing is comparatively
low at around 27%. The rate of owner occupation is roughly 59%.
Around 10% of homes are rented from private landlords. |
