Herbert Austin built the 120-acre Austin Village in the Turves
Green area of Northfield during the First World War; it housed
over 2,000 munitions workers employed at his factory in nearby
Longbridge.
The village consists of alternate Canadian Cedar
prefabricated bungalows and semi-detached brick houses that
acted as fire breaks.
The bungalows and houses are now private residences. |
