The Austin Village was built by Herbert Austin in Turves Green during the First World War in order to house the additional workers employed at his munitions and aircraft factory in nearby Longbridge. The village consists of Canadian Cedar prefabricated bungalows separated from each other by semi-detached brick houses that acted as firebreaks. Each pre-fabricated bungalow accommodated seven workers and each brick house twelve. The 120-acre village provided total accommodation for a workforce of over two thousand employees. The bungalows and houses are now private residences. Contact Sitemap User Conditions © 2008-2010 LACT Limited. All rights reserved
