Birmingham Rep

The Birmingham Rep is on Centenary Square off Broad Street in Westside.

It has two stages: the 824-seat Main Stage, which is similar to a Greek amphitheatre without aisles, balconies, pillars or boxes, and the Door: a flexible black box that can seat between 140 and 190.

The Main Stage tends to present a contemporary programme that focuses on new writing, cultural diversity and productions for families and young people; the Door specialises in new writing and experimental productions.

The Rep is subsidised by Birmingham City Council.

The Rep closed for building work in January 2011; it will be linked to the new City of Birmingham Library by a joint foyer; both buildings will share a bar, restaurant, studio theatre and external amphitheatre; completion is scheduled for 2013 (News Archive 10/01/11).
