Overview
 
Vila Park is an all-seater UEFA Elite football stadium in the Aston area of north Birmingham; it is the home ground of Aston Villa FC and has a capacity of 42,788.

The stadium is located in the lower grounds of Aston Park beneath the hill on which Aston Hall was built by Sir Thomas Holte in 1618-35.

The stadium consists of four stands: Holte, North, Trinity and Doug Ellis.

The Holte is behind the south goal nearest Aston Hall: it is a two-tier stand with 13,500 seats that was completed in 1994.

The North Stand is behind the north goal nearest Witton; it was completed in 1977 and has 7,000 seats.

The Trinity Stand is on the west touchline nearest Aston Park; it is a three tier stand with 13,000 seats that was completed in 2001; the upper tiers overhang Trinity Road.

The Doug Ellis Stand is on the east touchline nearest Witton Road; it is a two tier stand with 9,000 seats that was completed in 1995.

The Villa Village is behind the North Stand; it consists of the club store, ticket office, Gordon Cowans Suite (supporters club), indoor arena/training facility (Academy) and four car parks.

The Holte Pub and a 5th car park are located behind the Holte Stand.

 
Hermit of the Holte @ Villa Park
 
The Hermit of the Holte is an unidentified middle-aged tramp who lives in a cardboard shelter beneath the Holte End and survives on discarded scraps from hospitality suites (News Archive 13/03/11).

3) Trinity & 82 is a first-floor suite with two private bars in the Trinity Stand; it commands views of Aston Park and can seat 250 theatre-style and 180 banquet-style.

4) McGregor's is a first-floor suite in the Trinity Stand; it commands views of the football pitch and Aston Park and can seat 180 banquet-style and 140 theatre-style.

5) Directors is a second-floor suite with a private bar and its own car park; it commands views of the football pitch and Aston Park and can seat 80 theatre-style and 60 banquet-style.

6) The Sky Lounge is a third-floor suite at the corner of the Holte Stand and Trinity Stand; it commands views of the football pitch and Aston Park and can seat 70 theatre-style.

7) The Corner Flag is a first-floor suite with a private bar at the corner of the Trinity Stand and North Stand; it commands views of the football pitch and Aston Park and can seat 60 theatre-style and 100 banquet-style.

8) The Holte is a refurbished Victorian pub behind the Holte Stand; it contains three first-floor suites that can hold 64, 48 and 32 banquet-style.

The stadium contains three syndicate suites:

1) The Players Lounge can seat 60 theatre-style, 32 cabaret-style and 30 boardroom-style;

2) The Interview Room can seat 80 theatre-style, 32 cabaret-style and 30 boardroom-style;

3) The Press Lounge can seat 40 theatre-style, 24 cabaret-style and 20 boardroom-style.

The stadium contains 96 executive boxes with panoramic views of the football pitch.

The stadium contains the following restaurants:

1) McGregor's is a members-only banquet/champagne/canape restaurant on the first floor of the Trinity Stand; it commands views of the football pitch and Aston Park

3) Trinity is a members-only buffet-style/carvery restaurant on the first-floor of the Trinity Stand

The club store is at Villa Village behind the North Stand. The club also has a second store at 142 New Street in the Retail Quarter of central Birmingham.

The Academy indoor arena and training facility is in the Villa Village behind the North Stand.
 
Area Around Villa Park (Top)
 
Villa Park is next to the Aston Hall Conservation Area which features a splendid Jacobean mansion with formal gardens set in parkland adjoining the stadium.

Aston Hall contains a museum that is generally closed on match days and during the winter months.

The conservation area also includes Aston Church which has a landmark 15th century spire and contains several historic monuments.

Other places of interest include the Aston Manor Road Transport Museum on Witton Lane, opposite the stadium.

Holte Pub @ Villa Park (Top)
 

The Holte is a refurbished Victorian pub behind the Holte End at the corner of Trinity Road and Witton Lane.

It is now closed except on match days because of insufficient custom (News Headlines 01/10/11).

Match day admission is by invitation only; the first floor contains three hospitality suites.

There are two other pubs within 200 metres of Villa Park: the Cap n Gown at the Witton Road Island and the sports bar at the Aston Arena on Aston Hall Road.

The New Aston Social Club (members only) is next to the Aston Arena.

The Aston Hotel is a family-run bed-and-breakfast on the Witton Road Island, barely 100 metres from Villa Park.

The nearest alternative hotels are the Campanile on Chester Street (1 kilometre), the Premier Inn on Richard Street (1.2 kilometres) and the Blueberry at Star City (1.2 kilometres).

There is a small commercial centre at the Witton Road Island, barely 100 metres from the stadium. It includes a newsagents, food store, off-license, bookies (William Hill), several takeaways and a Tesco superstore.

Villa Park (B6 6HE) is linked to the motorway network via Junction 6 of the M6 (Spaghetti Junction)

From Spaghetti Junction take the A38M Aston Expressway to Park Circus and from there to Villa Park via Victoria Road and Witton Road.

There are five car parks at Villa Park:

1) The Holte Car Park behind the Holte Stand.

2) The Director and Players Car Park at the corner of the North Stand and Trinity Stand.

3) The North Stand Car Park (4) the Villa Village Car Park and (5) the TV & Media Compound which are all behind the North Stand.

Matchday parking is generally reserved for staff, sponsors, guests, VIPs etc.

 
Roadie Crushed in North Stand Car Park
 
A roadie, who was dismantling stage equipment for Take That, was crushed beneath a lorry in the North Stand Car Park at approximately 6pm on Wednesday 29th June 2011 (News Headlines 02/07/11).
 
Match Day Exclusion Zone @ Villa Park (Top)
 
The following streets are closed 75 minutes before kick-off and are re-opened 60 minutes after the final whistle:

1) Witton Lane from its junction with Aston Hall Road to the Witton Road Island

2) Trinity Road between its junctions with Nelson Road and Witton Lane

Most fans travelling to Villa Park will not have privileged parking at the stadium itself and so will have to use one of the official matchday car parks.

Depending on which car park you are heading for, it may be preferable to avoid the A38M Aston Expressway and enter Aston via the A34 from Junction 7 of the M6 or via the A5127 from Junction 6 of the M6.

Witton Rail Station is barely 250 metres from Villa Park.

The station is located on the Walsall-Birmingham-Wolverhampton Line; trains generally run at 30 minute intervals; typical journey times are 13 minutes to New Street, 15 minutes to Walsall and 47 minutes to Wolverhampton.
