Alpha Tower (1973) is a 100-metre commercial building with 28 floors on Suffolk Street Queensway in the Convention Quarter.

It was built as the headquarters of ATV, but now provides office space for several companies including the Criminal Cases Review Commission, Jacobs Engineering and Network Rail.

Beetham Tower (2006) is a 122-metre skyscraper with 39 floors at 10 Holloway Circus in Southside.

The main facade features floor-to-ceiling tiger-striped and acqua-camouflaged glazing that enhances the building's vertical impact.

The first 19 floors contain a Radisson Blu hotel and the upper 20 floors contain 158 apartments.

Brindley House (Top Menu)

Brindley House (1967) is a former office building that has been converted into a residential tower with two additional penthouse floors.

The refurbished tower is 65 metres high and contains 182 apartments. It stands above the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal on Newhall Street in the Jewellery Quarter.

The British Telecom Tower (1966) is a 152 metre building with 31 floors on Lionel Street in the Jewellery Quarter.

Its primary purpose is as a communications mast; however, the central core contains offices and technical areas and the upper five storeys feature circular aerial galleries.

The BT Tower is the tallest building in Birmingham; it is equipped with corner channels that prevent wind sway.

The Centre City Tower (1975) is a 76 metre commercial building with 21 floors on Hill Street in Southside.

It was constructed as part of the Centre City Complex which also includes a low-rise podium that flanks the tower but is not connected to it.

Tenants include Virgin Trains.

Chamberlain Tower (Top Menu)

Chamberlain Tower (1975) is a 61 metre building with 18 floors on Broad Street in the Convention Quarter.

It was originally designed as an office block by Ian Fraser, but was converted into a 445-room hotel in 1999 and purchased by Jurys Inn in 2001.

Cleveland Tower (Top Menu)

Cleveland Tower (1970) is a 90 metre residential tower with 32 floors on Holloway Head in Southside. It was built as one of a pair, the other being Clydesdale Tower, also on Holloway Head.

Both towers are collectively known as the Sentinels; they originally contained a total of around 490 council flats which were acquired by the Optima Housing Association in 1999.

The towers have been refurbished and now form part of the newly-designated Attwood Green Quarter.

Clydesdale Tower (1971) is a 90 metre residential building with 31 floors on Holloway Head in Southside.

The tower was built by the council as one of pair; the other being Cleveland Tower, also on Holloway Head.

These two towers are collectively known as the Sentinels; they contain a total of around 490 flats which were transferred to the Optima Housing Association in 1999.

The Sentinels have been refurbished and are now part of the newly-designated Attwood Green Quarter.

This building was designed by the Seymour Harris Partnership and features an external lift shaft and tinted blue glazing.

The Cube (2010) is a 70 metre office, hotel, residential and retail tower with 23 floors, an angular crown, a golden anodised aluminium framework, and an apparently-random window pattern that resembles the puzzle video game Tetris.

The Cube stands on Commercial Street, next to the Mailbox and alongside the Birmingham & Worcester Canal.

There are plans to convert this building into a 285-room hotel with a conference centre, fitness suite and restaurant.

Dalton Tower has been scheduled for demolition as part of the redevelopment of student accommodation at Aston University.

It is located at the junction of Bridge Street and Broad Street in the Convention Quarter and is connected to the International Convention Centre by an elevated footbridge.

It us named after a mural dedicated to John F Kennedy that once stood on Snow Hill Circus but which was removed in 2006.

The building overlooks the new Masshouse and Martineau developments which will integrate the Retail Quarter with the neighbouring area of Eastside.

Metropolitan House (1974) is a 69 metre office block with 19 floors designed by John Madin at 1 Hagley Road in Five Ways.

The aerials on the roof of this building transmit signals for several radio stations including BBC Radio WM, BRMB, Chill, Gold, Heat, Magic etc.

National Westminster House (1976) is an 80 metre commercial tower with 23 floors at the corner of Colmore Row and Newhall Street in the Business Quarter.

This building was designed by John Madin as the regional headquarters of the National Westminster Bank.

Peregrine falcons are frequently seen on the roof.

There are plans to demolish the tower, which is currently vacant, and replace it with a new 163 metre commercial skyscraper. Demolition was planned for 2010 and the new building should be completed in 2013. However, work may be postponed because of the recession (News Archive 26/11/09).

The building contains 200 apartments designed by John Rocha and 4 retail units.

The upper reaches are glazed whilst the remainder is clad in pre-cast concrete panels with inset glazed strips.

Some pre-existing low-rise buildings have been retained as part of the tower.

Beorma Quarter (Top Menu)

The Beorma Quarter is a mixed use development of new and refurbished buildings next to the Bullring on a site flanked by Allison Street, Park Street and Digbeth High Street.

The centrepiece will be a 107 metre commercial tower with 30 floors; it will contain offices, retail and restaurant units.

 The facade will incorporate 800 fins that will create a shimmering effect.

1 Snow Hill Plaza is an approved 118 metre commercial tower with ground floor retail units that will be built off St Chads Queensway in the Gun Quarter.

The Martineau Galleries is a retail-led mixed-use development on a 13 acre site between Corporation Street and Moor Street in the Retail Quarter.

This development will include two towers, the tallest of which will be a 110 metre residential skyscraper.

The New Street Twin Towers are two approved 130 metre mixed-use glass towers that will be built as part of the Gateway Plus redevelopment of New Street Station.

The towers will stand on either side of a newly-created entrance to New Street Station off Station Street in Southside.

One will be residential and the other commercial. Stephenson Tower (1967) will be demolished to make room for the new development.

Regal Tower (Top Menu)

Regal Tower is an approved 200 metre skyscraper with 56 floors that will be built near the junction of Broad Street and Sheepcote Street in the Convention Quarter.

This building will contain a luxury hotel, 256 apartments and retail units; it will be tallest skyscraper in Birmingham.

V Building (Top Menu)

The V Building is an approved 152 metre residential tower that will be built off Suffolk Street Queensway in the Convention Quarter.

This building will form part of the 7.6 acre Arena Central development and will feature a V-shape facade, 600 apartments and retail units.

This project was delayed because of the recession; the developers asked for planning permission to be extended for a further ten years in November 2009 (News Archive 9/11/09)

VTP 200 (Top Menu)

VTP 200 is a proposed 200 metre vertical theme park with hotel, bar and restaurant units that has been earmarked for a site off Curzon Street, next to Millennium Point in Eastside.
