Sutton Park Railway Line
 
Overview
 
The Sutton Park Line runs between Walsall and Water Orton Junction in Castle Vale via Sutton Coldfield.

The line enables freight trains to avoid central Birmingham. It stopped carrying passengers in 1965 and former stations at Sutton Coldfield, Sutton Town and Sutton Park have all closed.

Water Orton Junction (Top)
 
Freight trains heading towards Bordesley on the Birmingham-Peterborough Line may switch to the Sutton Park Line at Water Orton Junction in Castle Vale.

The junction lies alongside the River Tame, the Minworth Sewage Works, the Farnborough Road Recreation Ground, the Castle Vale Enterprise Park and the Castle Vale Nature Conservation Area.

 
Midpoint Business Park (Top)
 
Heading north from Water Orton Junction, the Sutton Park Line runs on a tree-lined embankment above Park Lane and past the Castle Vale Housing Estate and Midpoint Business Park.
 
Kingsbury Road (Top)
 
From the Midpoint Business Park, the line is carried on a viaduct above the A38 Kingsbury Road and the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal.
 
Candleford Green (Top)
 
Heading north-west from the canal, the route travels through the Minworth Industrial Estate and past Candleford Green.
 
Penns Lane (Top)
 
From Candleford Green, the line descends into a wooded cutting that runs between the back gardens of suburban semis on Hemingford Road and Orton Avenue.

It then runs beneath Haunchwood Drive, past the Walmley Ash Allotments and beneath Eachelhurst Road and Penns Lane

 
Plants Brook (Top)
 
From Penns Lane, the line continues in a wooded cutting past the former site of Penns Hall Station, Walmley Cricket Ground and Penns Hall Dam before travelling above Plants Brook.
 
Wylde Green Road (Top)
 
Heading north-west from Plants Brook, the line skirts Walmley Golf Course and New Hall Valley Country Park before running beneath Wylde Green Road
 
Ebrook Road (Top)
 
From Wylde Green Road, the route passes Bishop Walsh Catholic School and travels between New Hall Valley Country Park and a belt of suburban housing before bridging Ebrook Road and Plants Brook for a second time.
 
Rectory Road (Top)
 
Continuing north from Plants Brook, the line passes the New Hall Valley Allotments and Coleshill Road Nursery.

It then climbs a tree-lined embankment through a belt of suburban housing before bridging Coleshill Road and Rectory Road and passing the Royal Works and the former site of Sutton Town Station on Midland Drive.

 
Sutton Coldfield College (Top)
 
From Midland Drive, the route runs on a viaduct above the Cross City Line and passes the Sutton Coldfield campus of Birmingham Metropolitan College.

It then runs beneath Anchorage Road, through a wooded cutting and past the former site of Sutton Park Station on Midland Road.

 
Streetly (Top)
 
Heading westwards from Midland Road, the line runs through Streetly Wood in Sutton Park, skirting Blackroot Pool and Bracebridge Pool, before reaching Thornhill Road in suburban Streetley where it crosses the municipal border into Walsall.
