The Northfield constituency contains the council wards of
Longbridge,
Northfield, Weoley
and Kings Norton.
It is generally regarded as a potential swing seat.
Birmingham Northfield was held by the Conservative MP Roger
King from 1982 until 1997. The current MP is Richard Burden who
won the seat for Labour in 1997

Richard Burden (b 1954) held Birmingham Northfield for Labour in May 2010.
Born in Liverpool, he graduated from the University of York
with a degree in politics in 1976 and then studied Industrial
Relations at the University of Warwick. Upon leaving academic
life, he became a branch officer for the National Association of
Local Government Officers.
He entered parliament in 1992 wining Birmingham Northfield
from the Conservative Roger King; he held the seat in 1997,
2001, 2005 and 2010.
Richard Burden has been parliamentary private secretary to
the Minister of State at the Department of Social Security and
to the Minister of State at Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
He has also served on the Trade and Industry Select Committee
and the International Development Committee and is currently
chairman of the Regional Select Committee for the West Midlands.

The result of the May 2010 election was:
Richard Burden (Labour) 16,841, Keeley Huxtable
(Conservative) 14,059, Mike Dixon (Liberal Democrat) 6,550, Les
Orton (British Nationalist Party) 2,290, John Borthwick (UK
Independence Party) 1,363, Susan Pearce (Green) 406, Dick
Rodgers (Common Good) 305.
Richard Burden held the seat with a reduced majority of 2,782
on a turnout of 58.6%. There was a 6.6% swing from Labour to the
Conservatives.
