The Erdington constituency consists of four council wards: Erdington, Tyburn, Stockland Green and Kingstanding. It is generally regarded as a safe Labour seat.

The current MP is Jack Dromey who held the seat for Labour in May 2010 after the previous incumbent Sion Simon, who held the seat from 2001-10, stood down.

Jack Dromey MP
 

Jack Dromey (b 1948) held Birmingham Erdington for Labour  in May 2010 after Sion Simon, the previous Labour MP, stood down.

He is a trade unionist who has been Deputy General Secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union and Treasurer of the Labour Party. He is currently an opposition spokesman on Communities and Local Government.

Jack Dromey is married to Harriet Harman, the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party; they have two sons and a daughter.

May 2010 Election Result
 

The result of the May 2010 poll was:

Jack Dromey (Labour) 14,869, Robert Alden (Conservative) 11,592, Ann Holtom (Liberal Democrat) 5,742, Kevin McHugh (British National Party) 1,815, Maria Foy (UK Independence Party) 842, Tony Tomkins (Independent) 240, Terry Williams (National Front) 229, Timothy Gray (Christian Party) 217.

Jack Dromey held the seat with a majority of 3,277 on a turnout of 53.5%. There was a 10.4% swing from Labour to Conservative.

Birmingham Erdington is also a council constituency with a district committee that is attended by the 12 councillors who represent the 4 wards that make up the constituency.

Birmingham City Council delegates some local powers to this committee.
