The Martineau Galleries
(map) is a planned retail-led 13-acre development that will link the
High Street and Corporation Street in the Retail Quarter to
Masshouse in Eastside.
It will consist of landscaped pedestrian boulevards lined by new retail, leisure, office and residential units and will replace Dale End and the Priory Shopping Centre. The development will include 834 apartments, a multiplex cinema, a 45-metre office block, a 100-metre residential tower, new cultural space and underground parking for 2,500 vehicles. Work has been deferred until at least 2014 because of the recession. |
| Other Projects in the Retail Quarter |
| Other large-scale projects in the Retail Quarter include the construction of a new John Lewis store, the reconfiguration of the Pallasades Shopping Centre and the creation of a new public space at Spiceal Street in the Bullring. |
