Snow Hill

Snow Hill (map) is a 3.65 acre development next to Snow Hill Station in the Business Quarter.

It consists of four phases: (1) the Viaduct (2) One Snowhill (3) Two Snowhill and (4) Three Snowhill

The Viaduct, which has been completed, will carry 220 metres of the Midland Metro tramline extension above Great Charles Street Queensway to Colmore Circus.

One Snowhill, which has been completed, is a 57-metre/12-floor office building with ground-floor retail units.

Two Snowhill, which is currently under construction, is a 75-metre, 15-floor office building with ground-floor retail units.

Three Snowhill which is currently under construction, will consist of two towers: a 42-floor/137-metre residential tower and a 23-floor/82 metre five-star hotel with 198 guestrooms. They will be connected at basement and first-floor level and will include ground-floor commercial units centred on a public square.

Saint Chad's Circus has been realigned to make room for Three Snowhill; however, work has stalled due to the recession and the partially-constructed towers will be camouflaged by banners until work resumes (News Archive 26/09/10).

103 Colmore Row

103 Colmore Row (map) is an unbuilt 160-metre 35-storey skyscraper that has been approved as a replacement for the 80-metre National Westminster House.

National Westminster House should have been demolished in 2010 but work has been postponed because of the recession (News Archive 26/11/09)

Paradise Circus

Paradise Circus Queensway is a partially-submerged gyratory that encloses an 8-acre site containing the Conservatoire, Copthorne Hotel and Birmingham Central Library.

Birmingham Central Library will be demolished after a new library is built on Centenary Square in 2013.

This will provide an opportunity to redevelop Paradise Circus and link Centenary Square in Westside to Chamberlain Square and Victoria Square in the Business Quarter.

The Heritage Minister John Penrose refused to reverse an order for the demolition of Birmingham Central Library on the basis of architectural merit in November 2010 (News Archive 23/11/10).

Lancaster Gateway

Lancaster Gateway (map) is a planned two-acre development off Lancaster Circus in the Business Quarter.

It will include a 73-metre 21-storey residential tower with lower-level retail units and will provide accommodation for around 730 students.
