Home Nightclubs Gay Clubs Lap Dancing Bars with Late Entertainment Birmingham enjoys a busy nightlife with many clubs that are mostly concentrated in and around Hurst Street in the Chinatown area of Southside. There are also numerous bars with late entertainment on lower Broad Street in the Convention Quarter and upper Broad Street in Five Ways. Air is a super club in a former warehouse on Heath Mill Lane in Digbeth. It stages a broad range of corporate and entertainment events, but is best known as the home of the house music brand, Babooshka and the electronic music brand, Godskitchen. The club, which is spread over three floors, has a capacity of 1,650. It contains two dance floors, four bars, four projection screens, six LCD screens, a smoking area for up to 400, a central DJ viewing balcony, a VIP lounge and VVIP lounge. Air is fully air-conditioned and features state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. There is a secure car park for up to 200 vehicles. The club contains three music rooms, seven secluded booths and an open-air Moroccan-themed garden. It first opened in the sixties and is a former haunt of celebrities such as Ozzie Osborne, Stevie Winwood and George Best. The club later spiralled into decline but has recently been refurbished. Clubbers can become members without charge by e-mail or application on the night. It is located beneath four huge brick arches on the Snow Hill - Worcester Railway and enjoys splendid acoustics since music reverberates against the arches, creating a wall of sound. The cafe serves hot & cold food and sells energy bars, chocolates and chews. The club, which first opened in the 1920's, has a capacity of around one thousand. The Tower was once one of Birmingham's most glamorous nightspots but closed in 2005 after a long and gradual decline. It has recently been refurbished and is open on Saturday nights. The gay clubs in Birmingham are concentrated in an area known as the Gay Village which is centred on Hurst Street in Southside. Boltz is a gay nightclub on Lower Essex Street in the Gay Village. It contains four bars and two dance floors. The Main Room plays "upfront dance", R&B, Chart and Pop whilst the Dance Room plays a mix of club and house classics. The club, which was established in 1969, is a non-profit-making cooperative owned by its 450 members and managed by an elected board. Surpluses are re-invested in the facilities. The Nightingale contains a bar & dance floor, a lounge & piano stage, the House of Music nightclub, an open air garden with covered bar & smoking area, a games room and restaurant.
