The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is on Chamberlain Square in the
Business Quarter of central Birmingham.
It was built as an extension to the Council House in 1881-85 and
incorporates the Big Brum clock tower and a double portico
with a triangular pediment and sculptural reliefs.
The interior contains galleries dedicated to (1) antiquities (2) applied art
(3)
coins & medals (4) world cultures (5) local and social history.
New galleries are being built for the Staffordshire Hoard.
The art gallery features major works by Old Masters, Impressionists and
pre-Raphaelites.
