Birmingham Central Mosque is on Belgrave Middleway in Highgate; it was built in 1975 and features a white-capped minaret and a white dome with a gold crescent moon.
The mosque has three floors; it can hold 5,400 worshippers; 3000 male worshippers in the main hall beneath the central dome; an additional 1000 male worshippers in the school hall on the ground floor, and 400 female worshippers on a third floor gallery; washrooms are provided for ablutions.
The mosque also contains a day centre, an Islamic library, classrooms, offices, kitchens, a marriage bureau and mortuary; leisure activities are provided.
