Birmingham Law Society (Top Menu)

The Birmingham Law Society is located on Newhall Street in the Business Quarter; it is the oldest professional association of lawyers in England and Wales having been formed in 1818 before there were any courts in Birmingham and when only 54 lawyers practiced there.

The society met at the Royal Hotel in Temple Row until 1832 when it took over the Birmingham Law Library on Waterloo Street; both the society and the library moved to Newhall Street in 1934.

Birmingham Magistrates Court (Top Menu)

Birmingham Magistrates Court is on Corporation Street in the Gun Quarter. It was the first assize court in Birmingham and is a grade-one-listed building whose foundation stone was laid by Queen Victoria in 1887.

Nowadays, the building is considered too antiquated for modern purposes and so a new magistrates court is under construction at Masshouse in Eastside.

Birmingham Magistrates Court is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Civil Justice Centre (Top Menu)

The Civil Justice Centre is located on Bull Street in the Business Quarter.

It contains Birmingham County Court, the Birmingham District Registry of the High Court, the Family Courts and the Probate Registry. The counter is open from 10.00am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

The Civil Justice Centre is within walking distance of the bus stops on Corporation Street, Colmore Row and Priory Street Queensway. The taxi rank at Snow Hill Station is barely 300 metres away.

Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts (Top Menu)

The Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts are on Newton Road in the Business Quarter; they contain Birmingham Coroners Court and Birmingham Crown Court.

There are 16 courtrooms divided between the main building at 1 Newton Street and an annex at 4 Newton Street.

The court counter is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Sutton Coldfield Magistrates Court is next to the police station on Lichfield Road (A5127), roughly 300 metres from Sutton Coldfield shopping centre and railway station.

 The court counter is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

New Masshouse Magistrates Court (Top Menu)

A new magistrates court is under construction at Masshouse in Birmingham Eastside.

It will contain 20,600 square metres of floor space, 24 courtrooms and 13 storeys; completion is scheduled for 2013.
