Summerfield Park is a 40-acre urban park in Winson Green/Edgbaston. It was once the grounds of Summerfield House: a Georgian
mansion owned by glass manufacturer Lucas Chance which was demolished in
1889. The park, which opened in 1876, contains landscaped paths, tree
clusters, meadows, formal gardens, tennis courts, pitches, playgrounds,
a disused railway, drinking fountain and Edwardian bandstand. A peace
rally was held at Summerfield Park on Sunday 14th August 2011; over 5,000
attended to demonstrate community solidarity in the aftermath of the
Birmingham Riots
(News Headlines 15/08/11). The funerals of three men who died in
the early hours of Wednesday 10th August, whilst defending local
bsuinesses from looters, were held in Summerfield Park on Thursday 18th
August. A crowd of over 25,000 attended and were addressed
by Tariq Jahan, the father of Haroon Jahan, one of the deceased,
and Wajid Shamsul Hasan, the Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK

Green. It contains scrub, meadows, trees, pathways, hardcourts and a
playground. |

Moilliet POS is a 16-acre public open space off Winson Street, Winson
Green. It contains scrub, meadows, trees, pathways and a playground.
It was formerly the grounds of Abberley Hall, once owned by Victorian
banker John Lewis Moilliet. |
