City College: Handsworth Campus (Top Menu) The Handsworth campus of City College is the old Council House on Soho Road: an Edwardian building from which Handsworth was governed before it became part of Birmingham in 1911. The campus offers a range of academic and vocational qualifications. It teaches, in particular, catering, hospitality, beauty, hair and business courses to students, mainly aged 16-19. There is reasonable access for students with disabilities. City College: North-West Skills Academy (Top Menu) The Northwest Skills Academy on Stour Street in Ladywood is a constituent campus of City College. It is housed in state-of-the-art premises completed in 2008 that include several ecological features such as a wind turbine that generates electricity and a heating system that uses recycled rainwater. The academy teaches practical skills that offer good chances of employment, namely: business & retail, computing, construction, health & social care, sports studies and vehicle maintenance & repair. City College: Golden Hillock Academy (Top Menu) The Golden Hillock Academy in Small Heath is a constituent campus of City College. It is a women-only centre housed in state-of-the-art purpose-built premises that first opened in 2007. The academy offers a broad range of academic and vocational qualifications, including specialist courses in art, fashion, design, IT and early years. English is taught as a Second Language. The campus contains a cafeteria, a learning resource centre and the Golden Start Nursery with 50 places for children aged from 6 months to 4 years. City College: Muath Centre (Top Menu) The Muath Centre, formerly the Bordesley Centre of Further and Higher Education, is on the Stratford Road in Sparkbrook. The centre, which is a constituent campus of City College, is housed in refurbished buildings owned by the Muath Welfare Trust: a Yemeni charity established in 1990 in order to provide education, training, welfare and social activities, primarily to the Yemeni community. The college offers a range of vocational and academic courses in partnership with the Muath Welfare Trust; these are provided in a culturally-sensitive learning environment; men-only, women-only and mixed classes are available. Metropolitan College: Sutton Coldfield Campus (Top Menu) Sutton Coldfield College is a further education college and specialist sixth form centre on the Lichfield Road in Sutton Coldfield Town. It is the main campus of Birmingham Metropolitan College. The campus features a purpose-built sixth-form centre constructed in 2005 and a state-of-the-art sports centre built in 2007. It also contains several older buildings, including a listed Jacobean mansion, gatehouse and lodge (circa 1680) designed by the architect William Wilson. Sutton Coldfield College offers GCSE, AS/A-level, and vocational courses to roughly 3,000 sixth form students. It also runs day-release apprenticeships, mainly targeted at the 16-24 age group, and teaches full-time, part-time, evening and weekend adult courses. The college also offers some higher education qualifications, including foundation degrees and postgraduate diplomas, and participates in the "skillsbreakthrough" initiative with flexible tailored programmes designed to improve workplace skills. Metropolitan College: Mathew Boulton Campus (Top Menu) Mathew Boulton College is a constituent campus of Birmingham Metropolitan College. It moved to a new purpose-built site on Jennens Road in Eastside, next to Aston University, in 2006. The college offers over 500 courses to around 7000 students. These range from academic subjects at AS, A-level and foundation level to teacher training and vocational courses in such areas as healthcare, sports, leisure and technology. The college is a centre of Vocational Excellence in print media, graphics, medical sciences, business and professional services. Josiah Mason first opened as a specialist sixth-form college in 1983 and became a community college in 1992, offering an additional range of day-release, adult and university-level courses. The college offers courses in music, sound, performance, multimedia, fashion and textiles in addition to business-related subjects such as accounting, management, administration, information technology, health and safety. Joseph Chamberlain College (Top Menu) Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College on Belgrave Road in Highgate is an independent college of further education that is governed by its own constitution and directly funded by central government. The college offers academic and vocational courses primarily targeted at school-leavers aged 16-19. These include GCSE, A-Level and AS Level in academic subjects such as chemistry, history and mathematics and BTEC introductory, first and national diplomas in vocational subjects such as art, design, business, health and social care. Bournville College: Northfield Campus (Top Menu) The main campus of Bournville College is on Bristol Road South in the Weoley area of Northfield. This campus is a combined sixth form centre and further education college that offers academic and vocational courses to adults and school leavers aged 16-19. These courses range from A-levels in subjects such as Maths, English and History to BTECs in childcare, hairdressing and horticulture etc. Bournville also offers higher education access diplomas in professional fields such as teaching, health & social care, management and accounting. The college was established as an industrial school by the Cadbury family in 1899 but became an independent college in 1913 and moved to its current premises in Northfield in 1972. The main campus will move again in September 2011 to a state-of-the-art building currently being constructed as part of the new Longbridge town centre.
