Artsfest

The Artsfest is generally held in central Birmingham during the second weekend in September.

The 2010 Artsfest consisted of 600 performances at 5 outdoor and 32 indoor venues; it included Kerrangfest and Classical Fantasia; the attendance was over 270,000 (News Archive 13/09/10)

Birmingham International Carnival

The Birmingham International Carnival is a biennial event that celebrates Afro-Caribbean culture. It is held in Perry Park every other September and includes a procession along the Soho Road; the next carnival will be held in September 2011.

 

 

Birmingham International Food Fair

The Birmingham International Food Fair is generally held in Chamberlain Square, Victoria Square and New Street over 10 days in June; market stalls offer a broad range of dishes from around the world.

Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival

The annual Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival is generally held over 10 days in July.

The 26th festival in 2010 was attended by 450 musicians who performed 218 gigs at 81 venues throughout the city (News Archive 17/07/10).

 

 

Birmingham Pride

Birmingham Pride is a gay festival generally held at the Gay Village during the last weekend in May; it begins with a parade from Victoria Square through the Retail Quarter to Hurst Street in Southside.

Birmingham Tattoo

The Birmingham Tattoo is an annual event held at the National Indoor Arena in November. It features marching bands, field gun racing, dog display teams, standard bearers etc.

 

 

Birmingham Winefest

The Birmingham Winefest is an eleven day German wine and food festival held in Victoria Square during the last two weeks in August.

 

 

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is celebrated in either January or February with music, dancing, firecrackers, craft and cultural displays at the Arcadian in Southside.

Eid Mela

The 10th annual Birmingham Eid Mela was held in Cannon Hill Park on 26/09/10; it was attended by over 25,000 people.

The event included formal speeches, readings from the Quran, live music and south Asian dance, kabbadi and other sporting events; arts, crafts, food and market stalls.

 

 

Handsworth Artwalk

The Handsworth Artwalk is held annually on the 4th weekend in July. It includes poetry readings, live music, dance, photographic and other visual displays; films are screened in Handsworth Park.

Harborne Carnival

The annual Harborne Carnival is generally held on the first Sunday in July; it includes fairground rides and attractions and a parade along the High Street; the attendance is normally 70,000+.

Lord Mayors Show

The annual Lord Mayors Show is held in and around Victoria Square in the Business Quarter, generally on the last Monday in May. The entertainment includes musicians, dancers, craft stalls, fairground rides, children's entertainers, fire brigade and army displays.

Middle Earth Festival

The Middle Earth Festival, which celebrates Tolkien and his literature, is a weekend event held annually in May at Sarehole Mill in Hall Green; it features poetry, drama, archery, parades, arts, crafts etc.

Moseley Festival

The Moseley Festival is an annual 10 day art, culture and music event held in mid-July.

Moseley Folk Festival

The Moseley Folk Festival is a three day open-air music event held at Moseley Hall Park during the first weekend in September. 6,000 attended the 5th festival in 2010.

Supersonic

Supersonic is an annual avant-garde music and art festival at the Custard Factory in Digbeth. The 2010 Supersonic will be held from Friday 22nd October to Sunday 24th October.

Taste of Birmingham

Taste of Birmingham is a food festival showcasing top regional restaurants and featuring culinary displays, master classes, and produce markets. The 5th festival in 2010 was held at Cannon Hill Park on the third weekend in July.

Vaisakhi

The Sikh community celebrates Vaisakhi at Handsworth Park in April.

Parades converge on the park from Sikh temples in Handsworth and Smethwick and roughly 100,000 attend the feasts, dancing, music, craft displays etc.
