The Birmingham School of Jewellery is on Vittoria Street,
Jewellery Quarter, Hockley. It offers undergraduate courses in
Gemmology, Horology, Jewellery and Silversmithing; and a
postgraduate course in Jewellery, Silversmithing and Related
Products.
It also offers foundation courses in Gemmology, Horology, Art
and Design and short courses in Engraving, Enamelling,
Silversmithing, Stone Setting etc.
The School of Jewellery originated on Ellen Street in the
1840's and moved to Vittoria Street in 1890.
The core building is a former goldsmith's workshop (circa
1860) that was rebuilt in the 1880's. An upper storey was added
in 1906 and extensions in 1911 and 1993.
The School of Jewellery is now a department of the Birmingham
Institute of Art and Design which is in turn a faculty of
Birmingham City University. |
