In May 2010, West Midlands Police acquired shotspotter
technology which alerts officers to firearms incidents within 12
seconds and identifies the precise location in which guns were
fired, the number of guns that have been fired and the
trajectory and calibre of their bullets (News
Archive 25/05/10). The first shot spotter censors were
installed in Lozells and Handsworth in December 2010
(News Archive 09/12/10). Families for Peace, based at the Outreach Centre in Nechells, campaign against gun and knife crime in Birmingham. They have held an annual church service in memory of victims since 2003; the 8th service was held at Saint Martins-in-the-Bullring on 16/10/10 (News Archive 05/10/10). Firearms officers are now entering schools in Birmingham in the hope that their first-hand experience of gun crime will deter youngsters at risk. Marcia Shakespeare, whose teenage daughter was shot dead in Aston in January 2003, will accompany them (News Archive 06/10/10). |

| A 19 year-old man was shot in the leg on the Middle Level of the East Mall in the Bullring Shopping Centre at roughly 2.20pm on Boxing Day. Another man was stabbed in the face as gangs of youths fought running battles amidst shoppers. |

A man was shot in the head outside his house on Albert Road in Stechford at roughly 8.30pm on Thursday 30/09/10. The suspected gunmen, who were apparently armed with a shotgun, were driving through the area in two vehicles that were later abandoned. |
