SS Thomas & Edmund of Canterbury, Erdington

SS Thomas and Edmund is on Sutton Road in Erdington Town.

Designed by Augustus Pugin in the Gothic Style, it was built in red sandstone with ashlar dressings in 1850.

It is a cruciform church with a 36-metre west tower and broached spire; the interior is faced with limestone.

The site includes Erdington Abbey which was built by German Benedictine monks exiled by Bismarck in 1876; they left Erdington in the First World War and the old abbey buildings are now a campus of Highclare Girls School.
