St Mary's Moseley

Saint Mary's is the historic parish church of Moseley in south Birmingham.

It dates from 1496 but was substantially rebuilt in brick with stone facings in the Decorated Style by JA Chatwin in the 1890's; the west tower is early 16th century.

St Mary's applied for planning permission for the installation of 42 solar roof panels in January 2010. Opponents claimed that the panels would be detrimental to the historic character of the building (News Archive 30/01/10).

Permission was granted in September 2010 (News Archive 16/09/10) and the Chancellor of the Diocese of Birmingham approved the installation in March 2011 (News Archive 10/03/11).

In May 2011, local residents complained about a group of up to 25 street drinkers who apparently sleep, urinate, fornicate and fight in the churchyard and abuse and harass passers-by (News Headlines 31/05/11).
