Birmingham-Wolverhampton Canal
The Birmingham and Wolverhampton Canal runs through Winson Green alongside the West Coast Mainline Railway.

Heading north-west from Ladywood Middleway, it runs in a straight line beneath Dudley Road and Winson Green Road and past a derelict toll island en route to Smethwick.

This section of the canal, surveyed by Thomas Telford in the 1820's, joins the two ends of the Soho Loop, also known as "Brindley's crooked ditch", the remnant of an earlier meandering canal cut in the 1770's.

The western entrance to the loop is at Winson Green Canal Junction, near Winson Green Prison.

The junction is beneath a rail viaduct that carries the West Coast Mainline above the canal.

Roving Bridges @ Winson Green Junction
There are two grade-II-listed cast-iron roving bridges at Winson Green Junction.

They were made by the Horseley Ironworks in 1828; one spans the mainline canal and the other, spans the entrance to the Soho Loop
