Three canals converge in Westside: (1) the
Birmingham and
Worcester (2) the
Birmingham and
Wolverhampton and (3) the
Birmingham and Fazeley.
Heading northwards from Lee Bank, the Birmingham and Worcester
Canal passes beneath Granville Street and then makes a ninety
degree westerly turn at the Mailbox and Cube.
It then continues towards Gas Street Basin where it joins the
Birmingham and Wolverhampton Canal at the Worcester Bar.
Heading westwards from the Worcester Bar, the Birmingham and
Wolverhampton Canal passes the Regency Wharf and travels beneath
Broad Street before reaching
Waters Edge and the
International Convention Centre.
From there, the canal continues westwards to the
Old Turn
Junction next to the
National
Indoor Arena, the
National Sealife Centre and the
Malthouse
pub.
At the Old Turn Junction, barges can continue westwards
towards Ladywood or turn onto the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal
and continue northwards into Hockley.
Barges turning northwards will travel beneath King Edwards
Road and past the
Cambrian
Wharf, the
Flapper pub, the four Civic Centre tower blocks and
locks 1-4 of the Farmers Bridge Flight. |
