Bordesley Junction

 Bordesley Junction
connects the Birmingham and Warwick Canal to the Birmingham and Warwick
Junction Branch Canal. It features a cast-iron roving bridge made by the
Horseley ironworks in 1840.
Heading northwards from Bordesley Junction, barges travelling on the
Birmingham and Warwick Junction Branch Canal will pass beneath beneath
Glover Street and both carriages of Watery Lane (A4540). |

From

Heading north-eastwards from the Top Lock of the Garrison Lane
Flight, the canal
skirts the Proof House Railway Junction where the West Coast
Mainline, the Cross City Line, the Camp Hill Freight Line and
the Birmingham-Peterborough Railway converge, one mile east of
New Street Station. Here, the canal passes beneath three
viaducts within barely 100 metres.
The first carries a linking line between the
Birmingham-Peterborough Railway and the West Coast Mainline; the
second carries the Birmingham-Peterborough Line; and the third,
the West Coast Mainline. |

Continuing north-eastwards from the Proof House Rail Junction,
the canal passes through lock 59, the second of the Garrison
Lane Flight, before reaching the stock car track at the Wheels Adventure Park
and travelling beneath Landor Street: a
notorious meeting-point for boy racers.
From Landor Street, the canal continues northwards through
the Adderley Trading Estate and then beneath Duddeston Mill Road
and into Saltley. |

Heading northwards through Saltley, the canal passes through the
Garrison Lane Bottom Lock (62) by Cranby Street Bridge and then travels
beneath Saltley Viaduct and through Saltley Trading Estate.
From there, the route continues beneath the Birmingham-Peterborough
Railway and A47 Heartlands Parkway before passing through the Mount
Street Business Park in Nechells. |

Star City

From Mount Street, the canal continues past the Saltley Gas Towers and
beneath Aston Church Road and a railway viaduct carrying the Stechford
Avoiding Line.
It then passes Star City: a leisure park with a multiplex cinema, 10
restaurants, mini-golf, goals and climbing centres, tenpin bowling,
laser and fun stations. |

Nechells Shallow Lock
(Top) |

|

Heading northwards from Star City, the canal passes beneath the M6
before terminating at Nechells Shallow Lock at Salford Canal Junction.
This lock divides the Birmingham and Warwick Junction Branch Canal
from the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal. It was installed to prevent water
transference between the canals but is now permanently left open. |
