The Birmingham and Warwick Canal runs for approximately 1
kilometre through Digbeth from
Bordesley Junction to the
Warwick
Bar. Barges heading westwards towards Bordesley Junction on
the Birmingham and Warwick Canal may switch to the
Junction
Branch and travel northwards through Saltley and Nechells to
Salford Junction.
Barges continuing on the Birmingham & Warwick Canal will
travel westwards through Digbeth, beneath a disused
railway viaduct and Great Barr Street, before entering the
Warwick Bar Conservation Area.
From Great Barr Street, the canal turns north-eastwards, past the Bond Icehouse before crossing an aqueduct above the
River Rea.
It then continues past the Fellows Morton and Clayton
building before terminating at Warwick Bar.
Barges may pass through a stop-lock at Warwick Bar in order
to enter the
Digbeth Branch Canal. |
